At the heart of the system are all the Back Office modules to administer and manage the relationship between workstations on one or more networks. The main functions of Back Office are user rights management, archiving, purge, etc.
All radio sound files and metadata are stored on the server. The storage capacity of the data library is designed to suit the radio stations requirements. The SQL database standard means that the data library can be immediately accessed by every user. There is a wide range of search criteria to help the user find files quickly.
High storage capacity in the data library
Access to the database by LAN or WAN
The same sound/multimedia file can be used by several users at a time
DBShare is an automatic software device for ensuring data reliability in important systems. It proceeds by systematic synchronous redundancy of all the metadata the system produces and ensures the consistency of database contents. The databases are automatically synchronised. When an incident occurs on one of them, DBShare automatically switches to another and archives any query made during and after the incident. When conditions return to normal, the memorised queries are automatically executed and the database is completely restored. Both databases are resynchronised and no datum is lost.
Media Management is an automatic device designed to ensure that files are always available whenever they are called. It handles the entire circulation of data (metadata and sound data) within an audio or video system. Its role is to monitor and transfer data from one domain to another, allowing each domain to remain completely independent. For instance, when an item is marked as RTA (Ready-to-Archive), the file is automatically copied on the archive server. This 'tracking' always ensures that the right document is available at the right place, at the right time. The automatic Media Management device makes it easier to create specific domains for each activity (Production, Broadcast, Archiving, etc.).
The Administration module is used to define user categories (administrators, technicians, journalists, presenters, maintenance staff, etc.) and allocate the exact rights of each. Each user's work interface is therefore predefined. On the basis of the name and password, the computer automatically assigns :
the functions requested for the user
the user's language
consultation, modification and deletion rights for the user category
Script is the Radio-Assist 7.5 dispatch processing module. Script Office is the Script dispatch reception module, which captures dispatches from the main press agencies as they come in. They are detected by ITPC on capture so the texts can be indexed immediately. Script Office can handle up to 128 transmissions at once and has a storage capacity of several months per line.
Radio-Assist 7 uses the protocol MOS (Media Object Server) to interface with many dispatch processing systems such as iNews, ENPS, etc. The functions of both systems can be accessed simultaneously via a single interface and are perfectly compatible.
Dispatcher is a highly powerful automaton which can convert sound files and export them directly from the Radio-Assist database to any target. The special feature of Dispatcher is that it can define a number of profiles, each one relating to a conversion format, a target, etc.
NETIA has perfected its archiving system by increasing storage capacity and automating restoration. More specifically, the NETIA archiving program, an extension of the Media Management module, can now be linked to the DIVA (Front Porch Digital) archive manager and make use of the vast storage capacities of e,g, Sony Petasite, Storagetek . When a user directly labels a file as "to archive" in the database browser, the archiving service takes note and automatically stores the file. The list of archived items can be accessed from any workstation.
The purge module automatically frees the server of obsolete files to ensure there is always enough storage space. File deletion is fully controlled by means of explicit parameters per type of file. For instance, items which should never be purged, such as programme dressing, music titles, etc., can be locked to prevent this happening.
The Autofill module automates file conversion and import to the data library. Whatever the file format, Autofill converts it into Radio-Assist format, stores it in the database and makes it accessible to all workstations on the system
