TSR - Télévision Suisse Romande

Télévision Suisse Romande (TSR) is part of the SRG SSR group which manages several radio and television channels in Switzerland.TSR broadcasts mainly to the French-speaking population of Switzerland, almost 1.6 million people in total. Wishing to upgrade their immense audiovisual assets, TSR called on NETIA to optimize their archiving and viewing systems.

The project

• Improve archive management through digitalization and the creation of a preview video with time code display.

• Enable all players within the company to access archive previews via a simple and efficient intranet interface.

• Create preview files in MPEG format from the IMX high-definition cassettes used for archiving allowing fast and flexible viewing via the intranet.

• Improve the archive management system by dispatching the audiovisual media to the only media really in use

The Manreo solution

• The Hypercast Editor software from NETIA's Manreo range allows a real-time encoding of audiovisual feeds through Beta IMX control.

• An intranet interface adapted to TSR's needs gives viewers instantaneous access to viewing files.

• Video previews on the intranet are managed at a speed of 1.5 Mbit, which ensures high viewing quality within the existing network capacity.

• The Hypercast Editor software allows an audiovisual tape tobe encoded in real time and to be automatically available on the network.

• This solution offers the option of simultaneously encoding archives in IMX format for saving and MPEG 1 format for viewing.

The next step

TSR now wants to step up the automation of the digitizing process. NETIA is currently implementing a solution to automate the digitizing system based on individual video files. Import plug-ins enable automatic encoding while observing the segmentation of the archived file. This results in time savings and productivity gains for the operator.
